(UPM, Helsinki, 23 September 2019 at 9:30 EET) — UPM will today be recognised as a Global Compact LEAD participant for its strong commitment to the United Nations Global Compact and its Ten Principles for responsible business. The recognition will be addressed to only 36 global companies at the Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York. UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

Growing up in Ristiina by Lake Saimaa, Saila Tiihonen became familiar with the UPM Pellos plywood mills at a young age. A long-standing and important employer in the region, UPM Pellos began operations as a chipboard mill in 1964. Since then, it has gone on to become the largest manufacturer of softwood plywood in Europe.

UPM maintains its industry leader position in the global Dow Jones Sustainability Index

“DJSI is an esteemed, global index measuring corporate sustainability. First of all, I would like to thank all UPMers for their valuable contribution to this recognition,” notes Sami Lundgren, VP, UPM Responsibility.
