Uruguayan Foreign Minister ruled out the dismantling of UPM (ex Botnia)
Luis Almagro, Uruguayan Foreign Minister, criticized for the first time (at least publicly) the cut of Gualeguaychú-Fray Bentos. He said that dismantling UPM (ex Botnia) “is inpracticable” due to the size of the investment.
Speaking to Radio 10, Almagro said “it is impracticable to dismantle an investment of such magnitude (…) it does not exist in the world,” adding that “this may be an expression of desire” but it is “just that.”
Uruguayan Foreign Minister said that Fray Bentos is one of the areas with the highest unemployment rate in the nation, so that “what matters is the position of the Argentine government, which said the cuts are unjustified.”
“After, all necessary measures shall be taken to enforce what he says Justice. The two governments are engaged in the monitoring process and the free movement of people and goods “Almagro said.
In addition, the Uruguayan diplomat defended the scientists that will monitor together, “the scientists that will be monitoring have a reputation known professors are teachers, on one side and the other” he said.
